The launch event for the European project “@nclusion” was successfully held on October 15, 2024, in Nicosia. The event aimed to promote the integration of LGBTQI+ migrants into local societies. We hosted representatives from various agencies, organizations, and communities, with the goal of disseminating the main objectives and actions of the project.

The event featured two central presentations. The first, by ANEL (Nicosia Development Agency), focused on the overall goals of the “@nclusion” project. The presentation outlined the challenges faced by LGBTQI+ migrants and the need to create safe and inclusive environments where diversity is accepted and promoted. In addition, the importance of fostering social inclusion through collaboration with local authorities and local organizations was emphasized.

The second presentation, by Center for Social Innovation (Center for Social Innovation), delved deeper into the specific needs of the target group. It introduced key concepts such as “LGBTQI+” and explored the multidimensional challenges faced by LGBTQI+ migrants, who often experience double stigma — due to both their gender identity and sexual orientation, as well as their migrant status.

Additionally, during the event, some preliminary results from ongoing questionnaires were shared, as part of the development of the National Report, which is one of the project’s key deliverables. The initial data from the questionnaires highlighted that a significant portion of society is aware of the challenges faced by LGBTQI+ migrants. This is a particularly positive sign, indicating that there is a growing awareness of the issues affecting this group, which can play a crucial role in future efforts to integrate them. Social awareness of these challenges is an important first step in promoting change and creating more inclusive policies.

Moreover, the importance of social integration for this group was emphasized, not only for their individual empowerment, but also for the broader strengthening of social cohesion.

The event marked a strong beginning for the “@nclusion” project, reinforcing the participants’ commitment to promoting equal opportunities and rights for all.
