Programming Period: 2021 - 2027
Project Title: Resilience in Desertification and Drought for Mediterranean
Acronym: RedeeM
Duration: 45 months (1 September 2025 – 31 May 2029)
Lead Partner: Energy and Water Agency (Agenzija dwar l-Energija u l-Ilma)
Total Budget: €3,846,019.55
Project Description
RedeeM aims to strengthen climate resilience and address water scarcity and desertification across Mediterranean rural regions through integrated water governance based on the Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus. The project develops a common governance framework that prioritises sustainable water allocation, promotes nature-based and innovative technological solutions, and supports climate adaptation.
The project maps territorial WEFE interactions, implements pilot demonstrations—including solar-powered irrigation, drone-based water monitoring, riparian ecosystem restoration, and green infrastructure to reduce reservoir evaporation—and translates the results into practical governance tools, a Mediterranean water governance strategy, stakeholder platforms, and capacity-building activities. Through transnational cooperation, RedeeM enables Mediterranean regions to replicate proven solutions and improve long-term water resilience.
