From July 1st to 3rd 2025, partners of the Green Hydra project gathered in Donegal Ireland, for their third interregional learning event, combining thematic seminars, study visits and interactive workshops aimed at accelerating green hydrogen initiatives across Europe.
The event commenced with an in-depth seminar addressing one of the key challenges facing renewable energy projects today: community acceptance. Experts explored effective strategies to engage local communities and address concerns specifically related to green hydrogen deployment, fostering trust and collaboration essential for project success.
The learning continued at Killibegs, a hub for maritime innovation, where specialists from the Killibegs Marine Cluster presented insights into the emerging role of green hydrogen within the blue economy. Discussions highlighted promising applications, such as green hydrogen-powered vessels and port operations, emphasizing the region’s commitment to sustainable maritime activities.
A major focus of the event was the co-creation workshop on Market System Mapping and Ecosystem Analysis. Partners collaborated closely to share practical use cases illustrating the green hydrogen value chain—from wind energy generation and electrolyser technology to mobility solutions. These case studies offered valuable perspectives on existing stakeholder networks, policy frameworks, and regulatory instruments supporting green hydrogen adoption.
The workshop facilitated a critical dialogue on identifying barriers and enablers within both business and policy environments. Partners examined how to overcome challenges such as funding gaps, infrastructure limitations and public awareness while leveraging strengths like innovation capacity and regional cooperation.
Through this collaborative approach, the Green Hydra partnership is working to strengthen regional ecosystems and pave the way for scalable, sustainable green hydrogen projects that integrate SMEs and drive economic growth.
The Donegal event exemplified the project’s commitment to knowledge exchange and joint action, bringing stakeholders closer to realizing Europe’s green hydrogen ambitions.
