ANEL at the Green Hydra partners’ gathering in Groningen

From 17–18 June 2026, partners of the Green Hydra project met in Groningen, the Netherlands, for a productive exchange focused on strengthening regional policies and supporting SME engagement in the emerging green hydrogen economy.

Hosted by ENTRANCE – Centre of Expertise Energy, the meeting brought together project partners, experts, and stakeholders from across Europe to explore policy approaches, share regional experiences, and identify practical solutions for accelerating the development of hydrogen ecosystems. Cyprus was represented by the Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL) and the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority, both of which actively participated in the discussions and activities of the meeting.

The first day featured a series of presentations and workshops addressing governance, economic and legal aspects of hydrogen deployment, as well as lessons learned from other European initiatives. Participants examined barriers affecting the uptake of green hydrogen and worked collaboratively on root cause analyses and the development of policy measures that can help regions create favourable conditions for innovation and investment. The sessions provided valuable insights into how public authorities can better support SMEs and strengthen regional hydrogen value chains.

A highlight of the meeting was the study visit on 18 June to Resato Hydrogen Technology in Assen, one of Europe’s leading developers and manufacturers of hydrogen refuelling systems. Participants received an overview of the company’s activities and its role in supporting hydrogen mobility infrastructure across Europe. The visit also included a guided tour of the assembly facility, where attendees gained first-hand insight into the manufacturing of advanced hydrogen refuelling stations.

The study visit formed part of a broader introduction to the Northern Netherlands Hydrogen Valley (HEAVENN), one of Europe’s pioneering hydrogen regions. Participants learned about the region’s ongoing transition from a traditional energy hub to a leading centre for hydrogen production, storage, transport and end-use applications. The discussions and site visits showcased how strong collaboration between industry, research institutions and public authorities is helping to accelerate the energy transition.

The Groningen meeting provided an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange, networking and policy learning, reinforcing Green Hydra’s mission to support the growth of sustainable and competitive green hydrogen ecosystems across Europe.
