A new initiative reinforces Cyprus in matters of climate change adaptation
The Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL), in collaboration with the Department of Environment, recently launched the Cyprus Adaptation Ηub and hosted its first meeting. The meeting was held on May 4, 2026, at the Department of Environment, with the participation of the Directorate General for Development and the Water Development Department, which are the main stakeholders of the Hub. The purpose of the meeting was to coordinate and plan the Hub’s activities.
The Cyprus Adaptation Hub was established within the framework of the European project AdaptationHubs and aims to bring together all relevant stakeholders and encourage peer learning, twinning, partnerships, and exchange programmes. Its ultimate goal is to support the coordinated implementation of strategic climate change adaptation actions.
ANEL, as the only partner from Cyprus participating in the AdaptationHubs project, is responsible for supporting the establishment and effective operation of the Hub, while the Department of Environment defines the strategic direction to be followed.
In the near future, the Cyprus Adaptation Hub will organize meetings with stakeholders from across Cyprus, bringing together national and local authorities, NGOs, research centers, as well as the private sector in an effort to foster collaboration and coordinated adaptation actions.
AdaptationHubs is an EU-funded initiative of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, working to establish 27 National Adaptation Hubs across Europe. In so doing, AdaptationHubs boosts coordination on climate adaptation, while helping national and local governments to share solutions and strengthen their approaches to managing climate risks.
This network of 27 National Adaptation Hubs will foster collaboration among governments, regions, cities, experts, and communities to turn climate strategies into real action. In addition, these National Adaptation Hubs will be connected through a structured framework for grouping, twinning, and cooperation, thereby facilitating national, cross-border, and EU-wide knowledge exchange and capacity building.
