ANEL at the Streets for Citizens Partner Meeting in Rome

In January 2026, ANEL participated in the three-day Streets for Citizens partner meeting held in Rome, bringing together territorial demonstration partners to exchange experiences, reflect on progress and strengthen collaboration around tactical urbanism interventions.

During the first day of the meeting, partners presented their experiences related to the technical implementation of pilot actions and the delivery of community campaigns. ANEL had the opportunity to present its local intervention, outlining the progress achieved so far, as well as the key challenges encountered during implementation. The discussion allowed for valuable peer feedback, highlighting common obstacles faced by small and medium-sized municipalities, such as administrative procedures, stakeholder engagement and balancing local needs with technical requirements.

The afternoon session focused on assessing pilot actions, followed by an in-depth peer review exercise. These exchanges contributed significantly to the co-creation of one of the project’s most important outputs: the Euro-MED Toolkit for designing tactical urbanism solutions, aimed at supporting the transferability of results to other territories.

On the second day, partners participated in interactive workshops dedicated to the co-creation of policy papers and the planning of communication activities for the final phase of the project. ANEL actively contributed to discussions on how local experiences, including lessons learned and practical solutions, can inform regional and European-level policy recommendations.

The meeting concluded with a site visit on the third day, where partners explored an example of a school street intervention in Rome, gaining first-hand insight into effective tactical urbanism practices.

Throughout the meeting, ANEL also shared its recent community-based activities, including a tree-planting event carried out near the Latsia Health Centre, within the project’s intervention area. This action reinforced the project’s environmental and social objectives, demonstrating how tactical urbanism can enhance public spaces while fostering community involvement.

The Streets for Citizens meeting in Rome strengthened cooperation among partners and reaffirmed ANEL’s commitment to supporting sustainable, people-centred urban transformations across the region.
