On September 23–24, 2025 ANEL and all other partners of the Streets for Citizens project gathered in Ioannina, Greece for a two-day meeting hosted by the Municipality of Ioannina and the lead partner the Public Service Company Javne službe Ptuj d.o.o. (JS Ptuj). The event brought together municipalities, research institutes and development organizations to present progress, exchange experiences and strengthen collaboration on demonstration actions and community-driven initiatives.
The first day opened with a warm welcome from the hosts, followed by an overview of activities and deliverables under Work Package 2 led by the Institute for Spatial Policies (IPOP). A series of presentations showcased six demonstration actions developed by partners across Europe highlighting innovative approaches to sustainable urban development. After a productive morning session and networking lunch, participants engaged in a community campaign training session facilitated by Asociación para el Desarrollo Urbano y Comunicación Responsables (DUCoR). The day concluded with an introduction to upcoming Work Package 3 activities, a cultural visit to the Castle of Ioannina and a joint partner dinner.
The second day focused on field visits and interactive workshops. Participants explored the pilot areas in Ioannina and then engaged in peer-review sessions and an assessment of pilot actions, including “Open Your Street” events. These sessions allowed partners to reflect on local experiences, exchange feedback and plan future actions. Communication activities, updates on WP4 and the Common Framework Methodology and a Steering Committee meeting rounded off the programme.
ANEL in collaboration with the SURF Lab of the University of Cyprus actively contributed by presenting the pilot projects implemented in the Latsia – Geri Municipality. Their participation offered valuable insights into citizen participation and co-creation processes, strengthening the exchange of knowledge among partners.
The meeting in Ioannina combined technical work, community participation and cultural exchange, showing the project’s strong focus on creating more sustainable and inclusive cities.
