ANEL hosted the 4th Green Hydra Stakeholders Meeting with the Department of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. The meeting was held on February 19, 2026.
The meeting opened with a brief update on past Green Hydra partner activities, highlighting key interregional events aimed at strengthening regional hydrogen policies. In Sogndal, Norway (9–11 September 2025), a workshop examined how the region’s renewable hydropower, infrastructure and innovation ecosystem can support hydrogen deployment, addressing energy balancing challenges and opportunities for integrating green hydrogen into regional strategies. In Lublin (26 June 2025), stakeholders reviewed the Lubelskie hydrogen ecosystem, discussed policy and implementation challenges, and highlighted initiatives such as the Regional Brand “Lubelskie” to support SME engagement and hydrogen innovation.
The discussion then focused on the Policy Instrument Review, specifically the Integrated Spatial Development Strategy (OXA) for Latsia-Geri Municipality. The strategy promotes energy efficiency and the use of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) for green hydrogen production, storage and energy generation, with particular support for SMEs. Initiated in January 2025, the review included five participatory workshops with local stakeholders, conducted alongside drafting the revised Strategic Municipal Plan. The plan, submitted on 6 June 2025 and approved in February 2026, incorporates objectives on sustainable development, climate adaptation, RES deployment, energy efficiency, capacity-building, networking and promoting RES use among SMEs.
Reference was made to participation in the ANEL hydrogen event Hydrogen for a Clean Future: Pathways for Cyprus & Beyond (14 November 2025), which brought together over 100 experts, industry leaders and policymakers. The conference featured keynotes and panels on European and Cypriot hydrogen policy, technological innovations and practical applications, offering a platform for discussing strategic frameworks, innovation opportunities and collaboration across the hydrogen value chain.
Looking ahead, ANEL and stakeholders discussed the next Green Hydra partner meeting in Seville, Spain 11–13 March 2026, held alongside the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC) 2026 which will include workshops, presentations and networking for researchers, policymakers and SMEs. The subsequent meeting in Cyprus, scheduled for May 2026, will focus on planning workshops, study visits and identifying experts to advance policy improvement and stakeholder capacity building. During this discussion, stakeholders exchanged ideas on potential topics, study visit locations and experts to invite, ensuring the sessions are practical, interactive and aligned with the project’s objectives.
